But all this can be done without losing her respect for you. Groveling at her feet will probably be amusing for her – but won’t be a good move for you!

3. What will work, if you’re lucky, is a balanced, two-pronged approach. First, be sensitive of her feelings. Listen to her without giving her endless advice on how to fix everything in her life. Learn to understand where she is in the relationship so you’ll know when to back off and when to engage her further. Secondly, and this is almost the opposite of sensitivity, is to be a solid protector, provider, or advisor for her. She needs both: someone who understands her and someone who will be her rock.

4. Don’t think that taking out another woman to make her jealous will help.

5. Unless you are absolutely sure she is receptive, don’t contact her all the time via the phone, email, texting, or tweets. This is almost guaranteed to irritate her.

6. Do seek professional help if you are depressed or find it difficult to carry on with your normal work and recreational life. A divorce can be one of the most traumatic events in a person’s life. It’s sort of like falling into a deep hole. It will be dark and miserable for a while and you just have to find a way to crawl out. There’s no shame in seeking help.

You’re taking on a big challenge in trying to re-connect. Give yourself some credit for giving it your best shot.

If one or both partners, however, feel that they were unfairly treated, ignored, or treated with disrespect, they sometimes choose to say nothing, and let the issue fester. The other partner may not even know the issue is festering. Eventually, however, it comes to the surface, causing more trouble to the relationship than the original issue warranted.

Don’t ignore these signs of relationship problems. They just don’t quietly fade away. Unfortunately, they often start multiplying, with one issue leading to another. Take action on your relationship when these signs appear, so that you can use the strength of the relationship to solve it. Wait too late and you won’t have a partner willing to work things out.
